Evening Session:

  • Reading Jane Austen: A Novel Approach to Virtue - Karen Swallow Prior/Charie Harder

The Trinity Forum hosted author Karen Swallow Prior for a conversation about Jane Austen, who, as Prior notes, was a “clever satirist, insightful moral philosopher, and a deeply Christian thinker." Austen offers a trove of wisdom to anyone who desires to live and love more fully and truthfully.

  • *Reflection on Jesus' Meals With Sinners - Joshua Chestnut

Joshua Chestnut, staff member at the Massachusetts L'Abri, looks at Jesus' approach to hospitality and evangelism, namely, to eat a lot of meals with a wide variety of people—especially the marginalized and outcast. Seen through this lens, sharing a meal transforms from a mundane act to a powerful channel of love and grace.

SATURDAY:

Breakfast - Blueberry Streusel Muffins

Morning Session:

  • Neil Gaiman Goes to Narnia - Russel Moore

Russell Moore draws connections between C. S. Lewis and the popular fantasy writer Neil Gaiman. Though Gaiman and Lewis disagreed about the truth of Christianity, there are many ways in which Gaiman's work has been influenced by Lewis'.

  • *Community as a Subversion of Modernity  - Andrew Fellows

Andrew Fellows, pastor and former L'Abri worker, describes the challenges the forces of modernity present to anyone who would engage in intentional community. Modernity, Fellows says, is the "most complete God-substitute yet created." However, the dehumanizing forces of modernity can themselves be subverted, but it takes a community to do it.

Artists Interlude:  - Jimmy Jet and His TV Set - Andrew Peterson

Lunch - Ricotta Crostini

Afternoon Session 1:

  • A Theology of Blues and Belonging - Ruth Naomi Floyd

Ruth Naomi Floyd explores how the blues was birthed from the African American Spirituals, which is the root of American music. This body of music is deeply Christian in its pursuit of justice, and its lament is the ache for human dignity and belonging.

  • *The Imaginal Home - Clay and Sally Clarkson

Clay and Sally Clarkson, authors and founders of Whole Heart Ministries, tell story after story of how they raised children who embodied a Christian imagination. This lecture is full of good ideas and a hopeful framework for shaping your children through the practices in your home

Artist Interlude: - Mosaics - Joshua Luke Smith - Kara Ann Marie

Artist Sharing: share what you have been creating

Afternoon Session 2:

  • Artists & the Pit of Despair - Kyra Hinton, Jamin Still, John Hendrix

Artists Jamin Still and Kyra Hinton talk with illustrator, author, and educator John Hendrix about the narrative arc of every long project on their Artists & podcast.

  • *The Church and the Dinner Table - John Pattison, Matt Connor

This lecture looks at one of the most impactful "ministry tools" available to any church, the humble dinner table.

Pattison and Conner paint a more comprehensive picture for what it means to be the church than simply the things that happen inside the walls of a church building on Sundays.
